The Spunbond Charitable Foundation, together with Garnier, implemented a project to install a hybrid solar power system at Mykolaiv Regional Oncology Center.
The project is designed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply for the hospital’s critical departments and strengthen its energy resilience.

Thanks to the new energy system, the operating unit and intensive care department can continue working even during blackouts or emergency power outages. This enables urgent surgical procedures to be performed without interruption and ensures the continuous operation of critical medical equipment.

The project included the installation of a hybrid solar power system comprising 128 solar panels and three battery storage units with a capacity of 60 kWh each. The system provides up to four hours of backup power, which is critical for the operation of the hospital’s surgical and intensive care departments.

In addition to strengthening the hospital’s energy independence, the project also delivers environmental benefits. Solar power generation is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 17.7 tonnes, equivalent to planting around 1,200 trees, while also reducing the consumption of conventional energy resources.

The project marks another step in the development of Garnier’s “Powering Hospitals” initiative, which aims to provide Ukrainian healthcare facilities with reliable backup energy sources. The initiative demonstrates how collaboration between charities, businesses, and partners can strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s healthcare system and help ensure uninterrupted access to medical care.
